Sugar Hill, Georgia, is believed to have been the place where a freight wagon from a Buford Rail Stop spilled a load of sugar all over, well, a hill on the way to Cumming, GA. While the accuracy of that local legend is left to one's own judgment, it is clear that the area has grown quite a bit since incorporating in 1939 to become the fourth largest city in Gwinnett County. Already desirable for affordable homes, top-tier schools, outdoor opportunities, and more, the city has created a charming new downtown experience where classic architecture adorns brick-lined streets and families assemble to dine, party, entertain, and otherwise enjoy the natural beauty along with local treasures like the Bowl, the Eagle Theatre, and the E Center, exceptional parks, a 16.5-mile greenway, a gorgeous golf course, The Sugar Hill Art Gallery & History Museum, and active community groups.
A new City Hall and Town Center with turn-of-the-century architecture, walkways, a splash park, and more serves as a venue for free movies, branded "Reels on the Lawn" while nationally popular acts appear at the award-winning, 1650-seat Bowl at Sugar Hill Outdoor Amphitheatre. The new 43,000 square-foot E Center is home to a mixed-use development, a 400-seat theater, gym, recreation center, community rooms, and office space while the Eagle Theatre and Performing Arts Center hosts national touring shows, local productions, and other entertainment. There's also the Sugar Hill Art Gallery and History Museum, SHINE District, home to a host of dining options and more outdoor entertainment with even more mixed-use and other developments planned. The Suite Spot is the local small business incubator while Gary Pirkle Park is home to a wide variety of other amenities including a community garden.
