Seventeen-year-old friends James Sawyer and Thomas Snell opened a mercantile business in a small farming community then known as New London at the corner of what is now Stone Mountain Highway 78 and Scenic Highway 124 sometime in the 19th century.  What began at that time and incorporated in 1923 has grown considerably to become the diverse, progressive southern Gwinnett County City it is today.  Snellville offers the best in outdoor enjoyment, including fun seasonal events with business and consumer networking fairs such as the popular Snellville Days Fall Festival, Food Truck Fridays, the Summer Concert Series, and pre-paid movies, dubbed "Popcorn in the Park."

The Snellville Senior Center partners with the Snellville Satellite Congregate Senior Program to provide loved ones with activities that enhance their independence, and social and other services designed to maintain their life quality.

The recently established community garden, weekly farmer's market, senior center, tourism/trade, parks departments and other city functions keep residents of various interests informed, involved, and entertained.  Stone Mountain Park, Alexander Park, and Lenora Park, major department and grocery store chains, and The Shoppes at Webb Gin, a lifestyle shopping center with popular dining and national retailers, are just a short drive away.
